Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular media. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working with issues that relate to the gender-specific harassment of women as well as others online. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism at a early age. In 2009, when she was in university she started her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. In fact, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit examines how women are depicted in popular culture of today.
