The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. After a few weeks, she developed a method which did not make the subject on the canvas as an image that was flat. The subject becomes a replica that is its own and the canvas carries its own interpretation painted by the object, especially in the case of a living thing or food item, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is a bit ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Both photographic and painting techniques are so closely coordinated that the end result is a flat, two dimensional space, which achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in specific areas that are close to the eyes or hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional environment around them, which allows the models to be part of this self-created world. The boundaries between performance, photography, and installation can be dissolved.
