Tommy Lee-5-1024x1024Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant and mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), one of the contestants in the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his younger sister, is also a drummer. Lee was only two years old [4] when his father took his family to the United States. Lee received his first drums at the age of 4 as well as his first large drum kit as an teen. Lee dropped out of high school in order to pursue a career in music, beginning with Suite 19, a L.A.-based group that was a club. He was a fan of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Cheap Trick as a teenager. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge and Alex Van Halen were his primary drumming influencers. Terry Bozzio also has a major influence.
